Leadership We are governed by the leadership of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is the head of His church. Each member has an equal vote and say in the decisions of the church. The recognized and elected leaders within the body are the pastor and deacons. Committees perform the work of the church, made up of members willing to serve. Our constitution and by-laws provide guidance for the work of the church. Some of the ministries of the church include the Sunday morning service, delivered in both English and Japanese under the direction of our pastor. We have preschool and children’s programs during the worship services, youth activities and other church activities such as Men’s and Women’s Ministries and semi-annual youth rallies. We are an autonomous church, though we associate and work with other Baptist churches. We are members of the Tohoku Baptist Association comprised of churches in northern Honshu which fellowship and work together to reach the Japanese people with the gospel of Christ. We belong to the Japan Baptist Convention which is made up of more than 271 churches and 58 mission churches which work cooperatively to reach the Japanese people for Christ. To help support the work of the Japan Baptists, we give 2% of our yearly undesignated offerings to the Japan Baptist Convention and 2% to the Tohoku Baptist Association. Calvary Baptist Church also helps to support missionaries with designated offerings for Yoshi & Lily Shimoda who are building a church in Peru and are involved in reaching the people there for Christ. We give money to world missions through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Mission of the Southern Baptist Convention. Calvary's church body decides how much to give for the support of missions and the work of the church. Calvary has been related to the Southern Baptist Convention in the United States since its founding.
A number of the pastors who have served Calvary were first Southern Baptist Missionaries serving in Japan. _ Church Organization and Structure Ministries Associations Giving to Missions
